Default Oil change to different viscosity, any problem?

02 1.8 Vectra C, has been run on whatever oil they fill them up with from new, Vaux 5-30 presumably?...then changed with 0-40 at 1st service, then again with 0-40 at next service...has just had a service and thay have filled it with 10-40 semi-synthetic...will this do any harm at all?

The car is no longer under any warranty so it wont invalidate anything.

Also, appologies if this has been asked in the past.

Not 100% sure, but i think you will find the 5 - 30 is so they can stretch the service intervals out, I've always used 10-40 Vx semi oil without any problems. HTH.

Yeah, something to do with the Eco-Service-Flex, which was predominantly aimed at fleet operators IIRC...we questioned why Vauxhall dealer had used Mobil 1 0-40 instead of the recommended vauxhall 5-30, to which they told us , "well, its better quality, better for the engihne etc etc waffle waffle drivel drivel"...hmm, yeah and more expensive, rip of barstewards!

running that 1800 on 10w40 semi synth will be perfectly alright if you want to change the service regime..

Start changing the oil every 6-10,000 miles and it'll last forever..Don't expect semi to be able to go 20,000 without a change..

the reason VX fill it with semi is that they don't even pay 90p a litre to put it in your sump..more margin out of the service price for them..
