Does anyone have any ideas how to fix a courtesy light button that doesn't work. the bulbs are working because the light comes on when the doors are opened. 2.2 DTI Sxi.

    Cheers.

    UPDATE:

Ok, bought new light unit, the 4 button one with map reading lights, and the problem is still there.

The light comes on when the doors are opened or key taken out of the ignition and can be canceled with the bulb button but the light will not turn on with the power button. The map reading lights don't come on either.

Could the problem be with the light sensor thing that clips into the light unit as I just used the old one.

    Any ideas welcome!

There must be a permanent live feed to the light which isn't live - check the fuses & connections

Are the switch buttons themselves lighting when turning on your dash lights on etc?

If not - open then Close your door while sat in the car... and with the interior light on due to the doors opening, press the ON/OFF button repeatedly and see if the buttons lights up and off with the interior light

If they do, but then dont work once light itself goes off its definalty your ribbon...

I've nicked mine somewhere fitting a rear light and i get the above issue... £50 from the stealers...

The buttons do not light up, but I don't think they are supposed to as they are just grey plastic with the icons printed on them. Discovered though that all the buttons work as they should and the reading lights operate while the delay is on after opening/closing the door. Problem is that after the delay of 15-20 seconds after the door is closed the light goes out and the buttons do nothing until the door is opened or key removed from ignition.

Thinks its gonna be a visit to Vx

If you have buttons with symbols on, then they "should" light up.

Is there anything else that doesn't light up?...Is your radio display affected by the light going on and off?...

First port of call, check the fuses in the fuse box at the end of the dash...these are for the BCM supply, which disributes all lighting functions.

Check especially Fuses F7, F9, F12 and sometimes F4...better still check all of them to be on the safe side. F4 may not be present...it isn't always as Vx change wiring functions and configurations for fun.

Could it be a fuse with mine then?
