    Default Max Power Air Filter

Thought i'd clean and recharge my K&N induction filter today, as I have to clean it using the proper cleaning fluid, then wash it in water before leaving it to dry naturally and then oiling it. I thought i'd pop down Motor-World and buy a cheap cone filter to stick on whilst it's drying and in case I have to go anywhere.

Motor-World sell a Max Power branded chrome plastic cased universal fit cone filter for £20, ok I though that'll do me and the guy in the shop said just bring it back if doesn't fit or performs badly.

Chucked it on and went for a quick spin and WOW! Sounds better and goes better than a full on K&N 57i (£80 worth)!

Took it for a thrash up my local private airstrip and even at the top end it seems to work better than the K&N. Also as it's shielded with the plastic cover I reckon it's suffering less heat bleed from the engine bay.

Now I don't know if it's just cos my K&N needs a clean but if it can't keep up with the Max Power one when sorted then I think it's time for the bin for Mr K&N.

Ooh, you'll just have to tape over the Max Poo logo if you do hang onto it! You'll lose any cred you had (did you have any? ) at any meets.

Not one to be a party pooper but usually cheap air filters let more air in ( a good thing) but its dirtier air ( a bad thing ) as the filtration efficiency is not as good.

Its your call at the end of the day.

Scott, as you are THE expert in all things filterering i'll take your advice mate, had a worry that this might be the case, there has to be a reason why the K&N is 4 times the price!

Easy tiger - I don't know you that well!! I know we're a friendly bunch on here but......

I don't think I'm gonna make it m8. I've got too much stuff to do here and I don't want to be playing catch up next week with Billing the following weekend. I'll just see you all at Billing.

My 'proper' one will go back on either tomorrow or sunday morning, soon as it's dried fully and I oil it up.
