Default Is this normal.....oil in the air filter intake

Just done the airbox mod this evening and fitted the K&N. When i took the pipe off that connects the airbox to the engine i noticed some black runny substance, looks very much like oil on the airbox side of the butterflys. Is this normal?

    Pic here...cheers

Sort of normal but not as bad as my GSI was when I first noticed it.

Caused by the breather pipes that come from the rocker/valve/camshaft covers and maybe, the crankcase ventilation pipes.

Chances are it's never been cleaned out. Use a bit of carb cleaner to clean it up and check it again in say 1000 miles.

is it a diesel engine? if so its quite normal. It comes from the turbo seals. Every turbo car i have owned is the same. Might be an idea to clean the butterfly though

there used to be a product on the market called 20k boost iirc. You had to run the engine and spray the contents of the can into your intake whilst keeping the engine reving. Its ment to de coke everything without having to dismantle. I used it years ago and was impressed with the results.
