You're right. Even the punctuation keys on his keyboard have stopped working

Default 2.2 direct timing change (replacement interval?)

Rotten luck about the timing chain. I see from your profile that your car is relatively young - a 2006. Has it done a high mileage or could an oil change perhaps have been missed at some point?

A general question for the rest of you folk out there.
Is the timing chain issue a known problem with the 2.2 Direct and should owners of cars with these engines consider preventative maintainance and replacing them after a particular mileage?

    I have a 2004 2.2 direct elite estate.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Dave, spot on. VX say the life of the engine/100k. TBH i'd say more like 50k but they have been know to go at 30k. The chain can stretch but the tensioners also fail. The fix for the tensioner is the one from the 2.0T. If you get the chain replaced only buy a VX kit and nothing else. Its an expensive job but there is a member who does the full works for half the VX price, he is a VX Tech and only uses VX parts. The 2.2's need good servicing with good quality oil, and best to keep it to 10k. Dont use none VX filter for the oil as they break down and can block the oil jet for the chain, again only use gen VX filter.

thanks for all your advice ive heard off the garage today he says the chain has jumped a few teeth but he cant see any damage done to the engine as the is still loads of compression if that means anything to you guys. anyway he said he wont touch it ive rang a number of garages they also dont want to know but greedy old vauxhall jumped at the chance to help me out at a lovely cost of around £1200 + vat i told them thanks but no thanks. I have priced up the parts trade at vauxhall at £275 all in for both chain sets so all i need to do now is find someone to do it vauxhall say its a 8 hour job so wish me luck ill keep you all updated and thanks again

Returned your pm mate, but now I've seen your post I see you have no damage. Thats good news. The price I mentioned was just for the main chain, I think its an extra £110 to do both. It not an 8 hour job for benny trust me. Follow the link in the Pm and contact him through there, you will not find a better guy for the job or cheaper, its just a case of getting car and man together.
