Default Restricting EGR flow may help turbo spool up 1.9 DTH

I've just noticed on the picture below:

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showpo...93&postcount=4

The EGR take off from the exhaust is just prior to the turbo.
Now the EGR opens allowing exhaust gasses through below 2000 rpm which in turn may starve the turbo slightly, just when you really need it the most.

So by restricting the EGR or even better blanking it (TECH2 or certain remaps required to disable EML) would the turbo spool up faster at lower revs?.

I have the restrictor plate between the EGR and inlet manifold, and a further restrictor on the inlet to the EGR (A stainless steel penny washer with an 8mm hole in it) and I can hear my turbo spooling up from around 1300 rpm and I have no flat spot and other members on here have also mentioned that their 1.9's seem to have better low rev performance.

Could this be a double whammie?, less crud into the engine and better low range turbo response?.

    Please reply with your thoughts.

That theory works on the BMW 2.0/3.0 D engines when the EGR is bypassed and blanked off (a must do mod on them) - surely must be the case with the CDTi.

Has anyone totally blanked their EGR off..?

I know the EML will come on, but how would it drive..?

Have you tried cleaning the boost sensor as this may be part of the detection for the egr if not it still helps having a clean sensor with the performance, an allen key and a bit of carb cleaner is all that it takes.

oh yeah done all that at the weekend when i gave her a full service.

had a new inlet which included new boost sensor and EGR valve.

I've had all my software updated when I had the third injector mod and Inlet and some of the software updates were around EGR and pressures so possible that its made it more sensitive.

Doesn't really matter TBH. Its been a year since new inlet and when I stripped off EGR and boost sensor to clean as part of a major service - they were in remarkably good condition (v-power diesel all the time and the odd "drive it like your ar$e is on fire" method probably helps )

I have only restricted one side (EGR to inlet manifold) would you be able to tell me where you got the other restrictor plate from please?

    Yip - Fiat..

And I only tried the large EGR to Inlet also. I have a spare one, if anyone wants to cover the cost of it - your welcome to it?
