Default ABS and Traction control light on dashboard

    Mornin, all.
I had the dreaded front suspension spring break the other day on my 2004 Vectra c LS 2.0 DTI. Going to work this morning the ABS and Traction control dash lights stayed on. Would the breaking of the front sprint make these lights come on?????

Check the wiring that goes from the hub. There is a connector that can get water / dirt in it and cause a signal malfunction. Both front sides seem to be affected, most times the connection pins need a clean and all is good again. This is the first place i would look.

Good man Ste, I will ave a look soon. Just checking for prices on the front springs now and the guy at the garage said maybe the sensor has been knocked when the bit of spring flew out, and that they are v sensitive.

The sensor is built into the hub, so that failure mode seems unlikely to me. More like wiring issues.

Springs replaced and also (link pins), it turns out both springs where cracked, the only reason I knew one was cracked is that the broken bit flew out. Still got light on dash for ABS and traction. Garage told me that it is the rear passenger side sensor that is faulty, Ive had a look and can see that the corrugated plastic shroud that covers the wires has separated from the housing, I am suspecting water may enter here. Just one thing I cannot for the hell of me work out how to disconnect the sensor plug/connection. Anyone got any ideas or pics.

I had a look in Haynes and they just say 'disconnect it'.

The picture shows the connector on the back of the hub once the cable has been disconnected and appears to show a tab on the underside of the connector - nearest the back of the hub.

I would guess that you have to either squeeze the wiring connector in the right place as you pull it off or release a tab with a screwdriver first. Either way, perhaps look underneath the connector first (torch and small mirror may be called for) and see if you can see the retaining tab and how to release it.
