    Default Starting Problem...

    HI chaps,

Last night my car wouldn't start (07 reg 1.9 D 120) Tried jump leads, no luck...

It turns over but does not catch. Due to the jumps not working and the fact that it keeps turning over, I'm not thinking it's the battery. Oddly - the cylinder preheater light comes on every time I turn the key back and forth - surely that should only come on when they're cold?

AA are looking at it this morning, but any help appreciated.

    Thanks
    Stuart

could be leak off pipes, the tend to perish after a while allowing fuel to drain back towards the tank causing air lock, that said an 07 plate is a bit new for that. could be a duff sensor somewhere.

Thanks for the responses guys, It's on its way to the stealers just now so here's hoping it's covered on warranty. The AA dude suspected a sensor too, but all he really did was stick some jumpers on it and try to start it for 20 minutes

Ok Vardy in Perth now has it - although everytime I mention that word, people tend to gasp and turn away.... anyone here had any bad dealings with them??

Also does anyone know if any of the possible faults mentioned here would be warrant jobs? If not I don't fancy paying a stealer over the odds to fix it, so may just get it towed to an indy place...

    thanks for the help

Bumping this to the top and giving an update. Just had dealer on the phone, suspected bottom pulley problem has caused the timing to jump. Awaiting a phone call for an update at 4pm, (like I was yesterday between 4 and 5 and never got it!!)

    Joyous

Finally got the car back. Bottom pulley Woodruff Key was broken and EGR jammed open. Both have been replaced and now all is spiffing! All covered on warranty too!!
