    Default Any one any ideas??

okay im hoping someone could answer my question

basicaly yestoday i was driving along in my signum and the light on the dash with a pic of a car with a spanner suddenly came on and it went into safe mode so i pulled over and and turned the car off and looked under the bonnet but couldnt find anything wronge, so i started the car back up and the light was off so i carried on my way and it happend again after a little while

does anyone know what could be wronge or is there a way of finding out whats up by doing a paperclip test or something

The spanner light covers most systems on the car except the few that have their own fault light (e.g. ABS) so it could indicate any one of literally hundreds of fault codes. What symptoms did you get? Power loss, perhaps?

The paperclip test doesn't work on the Vectra C. What engine have you got? It might be one that works with a method which is covered on this site that involves holding down the pedals while turning on the ignition and then watching a flashing light.

Failing that, it's got to be a fault code reader. The specification of the fault code reader will determine what codes can be read - some can only read engine codes while others can read all codes, while the DTi engines don't like to talk to anything except a professional dealer/garage reader .

In the Manuel "i think" it says that if the spanner light comes on and goes out again after restarting then basically carry on and dont worry about it, i'm sure if there was something seriously wrong the spanner light would stay on, mine does it now and again, if it persists then by all means have it checked out via tech2 or if you can do the pedal test all the better. Most likely a small glitch in a sensor or something, there's so many. If my advise is wrong then hopefully someone will correct me

I would suggest you look at the small vacumm hoses to check for splits and also the big boost hoses for the same, maybe worth taking out boost sensor for a clean as well. I cant tell you where it is on a 1.9 as i have a 2.2 DTi but it sounds the same symptoms im sure some-one will be along to tell you exactly where the sensor is. HTH

The CDTi has a vacuum-operated turbo wastegate solenoid. I don't know if there are any other vacuum-operated things on it.

It will have air hoses but the engine layout is very different to the DTi so I can't advise how many there are or where.
