    Default EGR problem ?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2006 Signum 1.9 CDTI automatic (150)
the last few days when accelerating away it takes a few seconds for any real power to come through. When it does the power seems to be normal
I think is the EGR that is dirty, but reading other threads people mention that they get a spanner light. I have not seen the spanner light. Any body had a problem with the EGR that did not register ?

    Thanks for any ideas

    Chris

Yes, you don't always get the spanner light with an EGR fault, its probably sticking. Do you have any other symptoms, slight misfire between 1500-2000rpm, slightly uneven idling etc....??

All the above would point to the EGR valve probably being in need of a good clean.

As said you don't always get the spanner light with an EGR fault. My 3.0CDTi for example ran without the spanner light for 5k miles, but it made such a black smokescreen everytime I put my foot down

Clean the EGR and it should help for a bit.

how to clean egr new method (pictures)
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0271.jpg
obviously locate and remov e egr valve, not difficult at all
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0272.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0273.jpg
just a couple of pictures of valve when removed note the soot build up!
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0276.jpg
seperate the valve by undoing 4xtorx bolts
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0277.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0278.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0279.jpg
    look how bad this looks!
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0280.jpg
drill a 3mm hole in top of valve as shown
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0281.jpg
gently tap punch through hole until the solenoid insides come out next pic
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0282.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0283.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0284.jpg
what you should have when you have tapped out insides of solenoid now you will see the real cause for the egr complaint these parts will be corroded and cause sticking, believe it or not its not the soot that jams the valve but this corrosion
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0286.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0287.jpg
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0288.jpg
clean up removed solenoid parts, i use a bench wheel, and reassemble in reverse of removal but lubricate all parts with a touch of grease or the like.
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0289.jpg
gently tap solenoid parts back into place until flush
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0290.jpg
you can now depress plunger and notice one hell of a difference. at this point you will have to clean the body of the valve in some form of cleaner.
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0291.jpg
spray some more grease etc into the 3mm hole
    http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/SP_A0292.jpg
finally reassemble and refit to vehicle, trust me you will be very impressed with the results.
    Thanks for any ideas

    Chris
Hi Chris, I Had the same problem and i took the EGR valve out and cleaned it but it made no difference, the problem became evident when i took the EGR valve solanoid off. It doesnt seem to be the soot thats the problem but the solanoid gets some corrosion on it and it causes the valve to be either stuck open or closed. Google "cleaning a EGR valve properly vectra c" and there are some excellent pics showing the stages of removing the valve and the solanoid, dont worry about stripping out the valve and solanoid it is really quite simple. This solved my problem. I plugged my car into the diagnostics and there were no fault codes at all. Hope this helps.

Yes mate it will include the solanoid, but before you buy a new one i would recomend cleaning it first it could save you alot of money.
