Default Vectra rival!! Mondeo Mk1/Mk2 2.5 V6 Duratec

OK..... question for some of you:

...No - I am not going to ask whats better the v6 Mondeo or the v6 vectra - lol.. Just this:

Who has mechanically worked on the V6 2.5 Mondeo - Duratec engine, as fitted to the ST24 and ST200?

Specifically I am interested in peoples comments around spark plug changing... Anyone who has done this will know what I am asking about - yip, how did you tackle the rear bank?

Oh its a royal pain in the ar$e...

I did a set on my ST24 (remember that? ) and it took best part of the ****** day!!..

You *used* to have to remove the upper inlet and the secondary inlet to get to the rear bank.

I say *used* as now apparently if you have a specific length extension bar and a flex joint for the ratchet it is possible without removing inlets - just wondered if anyone had done it like this before.

Ford still say that the inlets need to be removed, and some garages wont actually do it!.. but it is apparently possible without the inlet removal.

As you have guessed - doing a V6 at the weekend and its a plug service!! Just looking at saving me some time

the big problem with this engine is that there as rare as hens teeth now (well ones in good condition anyway) and ford no longer produce any major components for the engine - we looked at a st200 estate about 3 years ago before we purchased the legacy estate - it had knocking on the lower engine (death rattle) the dealer who was a main ford franchise removed the vehicle from sale and we found it in a scrap yard - as ford could not provide any parts

good luck mate - as you said take it nice and easy

it was one of the only things stopping me getting one - i still work closely with a ford franchise and i still see the old 2.5 v6's scrapped because of component issues

Real shame that.. I know I will get shot for saying this - but my ST24 was an amazing, involving drive.. and that Duratec engine was soooo nice.
