    Question Aftermarket Warranty

I need good honest advice about aftermarket warranties. Vauxhall wouldn't be able to offer an extension to mine, as my mileage will make it null and void and Network Q never offered me an extension.

After all the kerfuffle of recent months with my car, I want a warranty similair to that of the manufacturer. I'm not worried by cost, as I have a sneaky suspicion I won't be paying for all of it!

I've seen a site selling RAC 5* warranties, quoted for my car for £485 for 24 months cover. This covers everything, but doesn't actually mention the turbo, which I suspect may be the issue!

So, I want full cover on everything, Turbo, the lot. Don't mind how much, as it won't be costing me a huge amount, I want to be using Franchised dealers and I don't want any fuss come claim time. European backup would also be a requirement, as I love going abroad.

Don't want much me, do I!!

As per my comments to you in my Network Q warranty thread, you can still get a Network Q warranty - if I understood your details correctly.

The criteria for extending the Network Q warranty are that the car is between two and five years old, has done less than 60,000 miles at time of purchase of the extension and is limited (i.e. runs out) at 125,000 miles if that comes first.

You pay various prices depending on engine size and age of car. I don't know which diesel you have, so I've chosen the two options that all the diesels fall under....

Car age under 3 years, engine size 1801-2000cc - £489
Car age under 3 years, engine size >2001cc - £599

Car age over 3 years, engine size 1801-2000cc - £589
Car age over 3 years, engine size >2001cc - £699

You can have 24 months for basically double the 12 month price.

after the original Network Q warranty has expiredAlthough it says somewhere that you can't extend the Network Q warranty, the exception to this seems to be if you still have some manufacturer's warranty left.

i.e my Network Q that came with the purchase of my used car expired in June 2005. My Vx warranty has just expired in June 2006. I rang Network Q (before my manufacturers warranty expired) and it wasn't a problem to get the Network Q extension. I've just done this for a year at £489. They even let you pay over 10 months interest free!

Even if your VX warranty has already expired?, maybe worth a call anyway just to see if you still can take out an extension?

Thanks for the info Duncan, I'm still under warranty, for the time being. £700 is mighty steep though! I don't think they'll agree to help out that much!

Especially as I won't accept anything less that 2 years!!!

Edit: Hang on, hold the phone, mine's not 3 years old yet....... That'd still cost near on £1200 for 2 years though...

Keep the money Andy, and use it to soften the blow should the worst happen, someone here got one from eBay recently for £120 s/h. Turbo that is.

No probs. Where did you get £700 from though? (if your car is under three years).

Edit: Just seen your edit! lol Yep, £599 for 12 months, £1199 for 24 months.

Yep, so as above - £599 for 12 months, £1199 for 24 months.

Maybe see if they'll stomach the majority of it if you go for two years, and you pay a share yourself? (that's if they tell you to sod off after you ask them to pay for two years themselves!! )

I might go for a year at their expense, then see where things are at in 12 months time.

TBH I did say we'd do it so it was mutually acceptable, which is why I'm thinking 3rd party / aftermarket.

Anyhow, looks like car is fixed, Regional engineer blokey has been out to it and says it's all sweet, so I'm going to fetch it Monday afternoon, run it for a week or so then, provided no faults, discuss goodwill / compensation. If it goes wrong again I will Keith Moon it through the doors at Osbourne Road, Luton, and claim diminished responsibility drove me to it!
