Default Cam belt .will it last????

I know VX say the cambelt should be ok for 100,000mile. Is this reasonable ?/
I have 2007 150 and it has done 78,000 mile, i am unsure if to get the belt an water pump changed at 80,000 service in a few weeks or wait until the 100,000 as recommended by VX.
Any thoughts based on actual knowleadge of the potential issue?

    Many Thanks

Some people recommend changing them at 50k max.

They often don't last until 100k, so I'd say you're taking a risk if you try and eke out another 22k.

The 100K miles is a maximum, not a target. I would change it at 80K myself, better safe than sorry.

    Had mine done at 65K.
If you speak to Vx 'Best Practice' is 4years/40K.
    Not worth the risk mate

If the car is still under and within its OE warranty, and has been full serviced by VX, then should the cambelt fail the majority of the cost will be covered by VX
For that reason, you can quite safely go to the entire service limit

However, once the warranty has expired VX will be very reluctant to cover any of the cost
Given the car is nearly at 80K miles (the limit of the three year warranty), you are nearly at that stage
For that reason, I would suggest having the cambelt changed (and as per my usual advice, request they use the kit and ask for the original back)

Now the water pump is a good one, and it depends on how you get on with the dealership
If it is found to be near to the end of its life, they may be willing to submit a warranty claim (in which case the ENTIRE job is covered by warranty), if not then it is worth replacing it

Once you've had this cambelt change, reduce the interval to 50K miles

Ive got the 150 CDTI, and although it's meant to be 6 yrs or 90,000, there aint no way am i taking it to that length for cambelt change.

5 years / or 60,000 for me, especailly with the power and torque of that engine. For the sake of a few hundred quid, it isnt worth the chance

I had mine changed at 153 000kms, approx 94 000 miles as per the service book, and no problems. Opel as opposed to VX, recommend 150 000 kms or 10 years. I had it done in the UK by a VX dealer. The water pump was not changed as on the V6 cdti I believe it is not driven by this belt. I also asked them to use the kit. When I questioned further, I was told this did not include the rollers and that they would check these, only changing them if necessary. I then insisted that these be changed too, at around £100 extra.

Got mine done at 60k, call me old school, but I don't trust these figures of 20k between oil changes (10k for me) and 100k for a belt, depends if you plan on keeping the car and how you drive it and early preventitive maintenence is always better than trying to wring the last bits of life out of a part!.
