You would be best phoning and getting some quotes, also ask if they have done any in the last twelve months, and if so how many

My dealership quoted the labour was 6 hours, as they had never done one before, taking the total cost to just under £500
However, on completion they managed it in just under 4 hours, but they still invoiced VX for the full price!

On completion, check the air box is remounted correctly
There is a water drain pipe that runs from the bottom and has to be disconnected
If it is not reconnected the pipe can become loose, and the whole assembly needs to come out in order to reconnect it

Finally, ask for the old cambelt back, it should also come with a tensioner and two rollers

In May last year I was quoted £360 incl parts (belt kit) and VAT by a Vx dealer. When I took it in they then told me this did not include the rollers which turned out to be another £110. They said they had intended to check them and only change if necessary, but I wanted them done.

Interesting point to note - V6 CDTi cambelt is driven by the fuel pump and goes nowhere near the crankshaft...

It depends on if you ask for just the cambelt or the kit
A decent dealership will apply the kit (cambelt, two rollers, one tensioner) without asking, but always check

Got mine done by a VX mechanic for 300 notes all in with genuine VX parts end of last year. Stealer wanted 350 all in.

It's easier than the 1.9 for some reason.

It just runs around the top of the 2 heads and down a bit to the fuel pump in the middle of the V - the pump itself and the water pump are driven by a load of gears from the crankshaft...

It certainly looks easier than some I have seen
There are no covers to remove, just the air box to remove to give better access
