The reason only the offside rear foglight is wired up is because of a European directive, which points out that under certain circumstances both onside and offside rear foglamps lit up could be mistaken for brake lights.

It is not a legal or MOT requirement, so one can happily wire up the onside rear fog lamp.

Not fussed myself, but I don't like the trend on some cars to have only one reversing lamp (usually on the onside, opposite the single offside fog lamp).

Unless you're looking in your rear view mirror at a reflection from a shop window, how would you know?

    As opposed to being safe?

The reason for there only being one is that it doesn't mask the brake lights and make them less visible to the 40 tonne truck that's up your backside on a motorway.

I prefer safety over style any day of the week.

Nothing like blinding the guy behind! Trouble is that people drive with fog lights on when it isn't foggy especially the fronts, which is totally illegal.
