Vectra 1.9 lack of power and car with spanner light on

Hey all,

My vec is really starting to drive me made.

A light has come on the dash a car with a spanner. what does this mean.

It goes off after 5-10 seconds.

Thats fine, however today when starting the car it only idled at about 800 revs and when i went to pull off wouldn't go anywhere was so slow to pull off.

Came to a hill and found i had to put it in 1st and then crawled up the hill. I could have walked faster.

I have looked at the swirl actuator bar and it was off. I refitted it and no difference. The car idles really lumpy and when in second has a horrible judder.

Any ideas what may be wrong.

Any help would be appreciated from a very annoyed owner.

get the egr valve off, seperate and clean, and do the solenoid modification...you'll find it all on here. Also get the boost valve off and give that a clean out with carburettor cleaner, be delicate..

Your symptoms are me speaking from experience. Check my posts about flat spots under 2k revs, coupled with the fact I live on a hill and my car wouldnt get past crawling pace either, this job should make your car faster again. The spanner light refers to a gas recirc problem, and this should be your gas recirculation clogged up

dont forget to clean the hole where the egr bolts onto the manifold.

..and maybe a fiat/alfa group egr to manifold gasket upgrade! Im doin that soon.

if i can find a template for the fiat one might just make a blanking plate myself.

well annoyed that car isn't working right.

Although the swirl bar was off and you re-attached - does it move when the engine is revved??

What may be happening is the that the bar may have been off for a while and the valves have jammed wither opened of shut and the drive module can operate them.

May also be the egr valve, but it could be that the car is in limp mode as the ECU can not operate the swirl flaps.
