Default Received massive chip to passenger door today.

Had to pop up to Manchester today on business, and while passing some HGV's on the M6, I suddendly heard a almighty loud bang noise from the nearside, which I figured was some stone or whatever from the truck on my left.

When I came to check for any damage later, I found a good 3/8" chip down to the metal on the front passenger door smack in the middle, and 3 small ones near to it. It's the biggest chip I've ever had on any car I've owned. One might expect it if directly behind the waggon, but I think it could have been something like a small bolt or something which got deflected out towards my car, seems too big to be a stone chip... no dent fortunately.

Then on the way back this evening, I passed 4 grit waggons on the M6, so the car got well shotblasted, with a couple of small chips to the windscreen, even though I got as far from them as I could, but they were all in the middle lane so hard to avoid... ****** things.

I feel well pi**ed off. A job for chipsaway or to fix properly I think the door is going to need a respray. I'm not a happy bunny tonight.

I go to extreme lengths to make sure it's parked somewhere safe to limit risks of damage, and now this.

It is "gut wrenching" when this happens. I know how you feel.

Look on the bright side, at least whatever did that kind of damage didn't pass through your windscreen instead!

Out of curiosity, if a truck kicks up a stone and it damages your car, can you claim against them?

claim for what ? them driving over something in the road - you can only be claimed against for something your liable for.

Yep it does suck... I would'nt have minded so much if it had been your normal everyday stone chip, which can just be touched up, you can expect those occasionally, but this is the biggest chip I've ever seen, smack in the middle of the door panel too... ah well.

Had a look in daylight this morning and the windscreen chips are quite small, and not in line of sight, so thats something.

When you spend this much money you feel like wrapping it up in cottonwool.

Could be worse, I could be posting that I'd smashed it up...lol

    Just so annoying.

Think you would have a job claiming if stones hit your vehicle, act of god..etc. I'm a none believer, so perhaps he's getting his revenge.
Also, who's fault would it be, the truck for kicking it up or the council for allowing stones on the highway in the first place, it's something we have to accept, and put down to just bad luck.

Just a bit of bad luck you've had there my friend, thats one of the reasons why i will never spend good money on a brand new motor, another is i can't afford anyway

Believe me or believe me not,my Merc Sprinter van which i drive for work ,has had 3 new windscreens fitted this month alone, time for another one yet before the month ends

A good tip for people is to try to avoid driving closely behind any type of aggregate wagons as they are the main culprits for throwng stones up from there tyres, they're in and out the quarries like a dose of salts, and they get bonuses for how many loads they deliver.Gl with the repair.
