    Default 1.9 CDTi 150 - Good Story!

I was with my brother earlier talking about his service which is due next month.

For those who don't know, he has owned my first Vectra C since I sold it to him in March 2004.

I specced it up when I bought it new, and it is a 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi, with full leather, NCDC2013 Sat Nav with colour screen, window blinds etc. It was also the second ever 1.9 CDTi built at Elsmere Port in Fenruary 2004.

On March 4th it will be 6 years old and now has 98,000 miles.

You may be thinking, whoopee dooo, whats good about that!

Well it's on it's original EGR valve, Original Inlet Manifold, Original Clutch and DMF, in fact apart from the water pump which was changed 2 years ago everything is original and still going strong.

So a good story of an old 1.9 CDTi thats been mega reliable!

I've had a new inlet manifold and a split intercooler and where I say are great performers, they are not reliable.

Do you think it is reasonable to pay £600+ for a manifold? - when there is a document from the relevant manufacturer detailing that the manifold has worn out swirl flap bearings due to the axial movement permitted:

    http://www.ms-motor-service.com/xima...093_en_web.pdf

I will keep saying this I have read too many posts regarding the manifold issue and even seen some members who thought it never would affect them fall victim to this.

Then there are the other faults the egr and the 3rd injector wiring loom which I havent suffered yet.

Sorry maverick although you sing this engines praises I dont and you are obviously one the lucky ones who havent suffered.

An engine that needs alot of maoney spent on it whene there is obviously a fault in my opinion isnt reliable - although where I support your arguement is the performance side and tbh I probably would have another one for this reason but I would air on the side of caution to spot the issues which seems to cost money.

Even though I have had issues with mine, I still believe these are sound engines and its just the very minority (when you look at the big picture of how many there are) that have issues.

there are always going to be the two camps on this subject - those who think it's a rubbish engine because it's had problems, and those who love it because they haven't. I was in the latter category. Bought the car at 2 1/2 years old with 60K on it and did another 30K with no issues before selling it.

Then bought a 3.0 diesel at 2 1/2 years old with 82K on it, 7K down the road and again no issues...

I here what your saying, but from my point of view, 4 1.9 CDTi 150's, 200,000 miles covered and no issues is not just good luck. I have had nothing but perfect reliability.

Now watch mine as it goes bang!

In addition to this, the 5 1.9 CDTi's that are owned my family and close friends have never faultered either. Thats not luck either.

    Exactly right.

Early cars tend to suffer, but A)Most will have been fixed by now, and B)Not all the early ones suffered. The actual percentage of problematic 1.9 engines is very very small compared to the number built.
