Default Starting problems getting worse!! help!!

Hi all, ive tried this before but im still having issues that are getting worse, im getting close to giving up now!
Basically a 2005 1800cc dual fuel (but im starting solely on petrol so its not related to the fuel hopefully) if the engine isnt warm its taking around 15 seconds on cranking before it fires, when started it runs fine no misfires or any other performance issues, The car drives normally and the gas system works fine. If the engine is left anything more than 30 minutes or so it takes ages to start again. Couple of things maybe related..the internal temperature display on the dash doesnt work) sometimes it displays -40 or even -39.5 i dont know if this is affecting the starting procedure its very rare the display work most of the time its blank. Also the temperature gague takes ages to warm up (seems to be a common fault) but i dont think either of these can effect the start up.
Ive fitted new plugs and a coil pack made no difference. there are no management lights etc showing
Is there some sort of cold start device fitted to these motors that could be at fault?
im getting concerned as its getting worse and im pretty convinced its going to fail completely very soon and probably leave me stranded somewhere! luckily the battery is good (so far)
Sorry for such a long post all ideas will be gratefully recieved!
    Tony

I would think it was a fuel problem... is your fuel pump working when you turn the electrics on? I don't know much about dual fuel but there must be somewhere in the system where the two lines meet before the injection system..

Sorry thats all I can pick at if you have sorted out the plugs etc. Would explain why its taking ages to fire up if it struggles to pick up fuel from empty lines.

(I dont know how healthy it is for the engine but I know on my old Escort 1.6 when I had a fuel problem the guy from AA undid the air filter and sprayed in a combustable spray like WD40 to see if it woudl fire up straight away.... )

an interesting idea about the fuel pump, i hadnt thought of that, im wondering if i should hear it running when turning ignition on? the other thought now is whether the fuelk filter at the tank end is clean? i meant to say the car has only done 50k so is not a huge mileage. thinking about how to test the fuel pump....

just thinking of another test would be to spray easy start from cold to see how quick it starts from that.
