Default Loss of power on my 2.2DIRECT

HI im new here to this forum & after several visits to my local vx dealer im hoping someone here can help me.I have a 2006 2.2Direct Signum petrol which when say overtaking randomly loses power as soon as it hits 5000rpm & returns after passing 5500rpm.On my last visit to my vx garage they found that a plastic flap on the inlet manifold was sticking which was replaced under warranty,i now have the car back but its still losing power exactly the same except its not as obvious!im only averaging 28mpg & i dont no if the fuel system has something to do with it?

It could be the high pressure fuel pump, I'm surprised Vx haven't already checked that out as its a common problem on the 2.2directs

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

If that doesn't sort it then I'd be looking at the EGR. Odds on the pump will have sorted the problem though.
