2.2 direct emissions light

hi everybody , went to start my car today which is a 2.2 direct sri 04 plate when i turned the key it was rough for about 2 seconds then cut out , the emissions light came on, then when i went to restart it it just ticked loudly three times and did nt even try to turn the engine !i must have tried to start it maybe ten times and the same thingshappened. hope you could shed a bit of light on the problem i know i have nt got any fault codes but just a rough idea would be great , it had the high pressure fuel pump done about 5k miles ago which i know is a common prob plus there is no spanner warning light on , cheers guys

not sure what you mean sorry i am not good with cars ! it happened last week but it manged to get it started after leavin it for ten mins and just put it down to a niggle but with the engine starting last week i dont know if that answerd the question about compression , thanks

Arr right, thats good then, the way you described it I thought your chain might have snapped or slipped a couple of teeth and that would have been very expensive. If its running fine now, smooth idle and no emission or warning lights then it might have just been a little glitch. If you start having problems again when your bringing it up through the revs then i'd be looking at the pump/reg again. Was it a dealer who fixed your pump as VX now fit a revised pump that to my knowledge doesn't fail. If an independent fitted it they might still be using the old style pump.

sorry rushy the car started again last week, tonight when it boke down it would nt start again so its still parked up down the road , the pump was done at a vauxhall dealer but maybe about 2 years ago as i dont do many miles it has only got 42 k on clock , going to have a go at startin it in the morning , thaks alot for your help i will let you know how i go on

whent to start the car this morning and no luck, so brother in law got AA out they did some tests and said the battery was shagged , i bought one from halfords and went to fit it but before i did thought i would just try startin it and what do you know it started first time ! i have still changed the battery tho , i am not sure if it will have sorted it i would nt have thought a poor battery would have made the emissions light come on , one thing i did notice was that there was alot water coming out of the exhaust not sure if thats common with it being that cold , just got to find my radio code now !!
