Default Sideways roll in high speed curves

    Hi all,

Had my Vectra Break 150 for 3 weeks now, generally very happy with it, but I've noticed the car tends to roll, even wobble, sideways when going quickly around a round-about or any curve for that matter. It's sitting on the 17" alloys.

Is this behaviour normal for this sort of car? If not I'll plan a visit to my dealer and test the after sales service... If it is normal how does one fixes this, lower springs? anti-roll bar?

It's a shame to have all this power & torque and not be able to use it except in a straight line...

    regards,

    David

What's that equivalent to in the UK David? If it's something like the LS/Life or Elite, the suspension in those is much softer and has a tendency to wallow in corners.

Is it a facelift or pre-facelift? I ask as I had a facelift SRi as a loan car when my Signum was being repaired after an accident, and I found the handling, even for an SRi, to be a bit wobbly/twitchy.

It's a 150cdti cosmo ordered new straight out of the factory. Cosmo is the highest of the 4 levels of trim which are Essentia/ Enjoy/ Elegance and finally Cosmo which used to be called Elegance before. Over here the 150Cdti is only available in Cosmo: 1/2 leather seats, loads of gismos etc.

Sounds like the Elite equivalent then. If it is, then I'd say as above. The Elite suspension is softer and more wallowy when cornering. A different suspension set-up will sort that out. I put the Irmscher suspension on my Signum Elite and it made a huuuuge difference - as will any of the other good makes around. Advantage of the Irmscher is that it'll still keep your warranty, handy on a brand new car! (Well, it keeps the warranty in the UK, assuming in France it's the same).

    Cool thanks Duncan,

I suppose that with the Irmscher kit and for the warranty to stay, it has to be fitted by an Opel Dealer, not my local 'village' garage which is handier?

What sort of budget are we talking about for the 4 springs and fitting?

Yes, needs to be fitted by the dealer.

In the UK it cost me £750 for supply and fitting - around £550 for the kit and £200 for fitting. I balked a bit at the fitting charge, but that was the criteria that kept the warranty so I went for it.

Well you're going to be sick at this one, just called my local opel dealer:
    4 springs : 347€
    Fitting : 175€
    Total : 522€ or ~ £350
Or did you change the dampers too?

They must have made a mistake or given me the trade price, because looking at a german price list for irmsher goodies (dunno which year though) the kit is 636€ incl German vat (~£410) and it even mentions the fitting time of 155' or is the fitting included??. That's Deutsche precision for you!!

I'd get both the springs & dampers matey.

Get the price in writing as well just in case they have made a mistake.
