    Default ABS/TCS lights

    Hi there.

I'm new here, so sorry if I'm asking a dumb question/in the wrong place.

I've got an '05 1.9CDTi (120), the abs and traction control lights have come on and stayed on. A bit of mad driving suggests that neither system is working. I was hoping to get it in for an mot this week, but I'm sure it will fail with these lights on. Does anyone have any ideas as to where to start looking? I've just bought opcom from a fleabay seller, but don't know if it will arrive before the end of the week.

On a separate note, is there any issue with disconnecting the battery on this model? as I could do to with a spot of welding and don't want to fry anything, but don't want it to stop working altogether if I disconnect the battery.

    Many thanks.

There should be wire coming from each hub, check there all connected properly. Also pop off the ABS plug and give it a clean, its located up behind the battery box. The only thing you will need to do after disconnecting the battery is just to set the electric window. Just hold button down till you hear a click then hold up and wait for the click, do this for all electric windows. HTH

So the radio won't pack up if I disconnect the battery?

Thanks for the replies so far, I'll pop the wheels off and have a good check of the wiring.

As long as you have scroll wheels to control the stereo on your steering wheel and not just buttons you will be fine mate.

I have the same problem on my 2.0 TDI when put on diagnostics get high voltage from offside sensor. Replaced hub which was damaged ( would recomend www.Vaux-world.com for part £59-00 inc vat and delivery best price from local factors £110-00)
Unfortunatly still have problem although every few days all works as should for a short while then back to not working for several days. Anybody got any sugestions ?

    So, a quick update.

Had each of the wheels off in turn today and checked the physical condition of wiring and connections. No obvious problems there, did the same with the big multiplug under the bonnet into the abs unit and it was the same story.

Is there a quick and dirty way of testing components? Any idea which pins on the wiring should be live and which earth? How about voltages? Not had the multimeter on it yet because I wouldn't know how to interpret the results.

Needless to say that my OPCOM hasn't turned up yet.

Getting a bit desparate with it now

Thanks for all help so far.

i've been having the same problem and read that where the wires go behind the wheel arch plastic lining there is often corrosion to the wire or a connector. havnt looked myself yet but top of the to do list.
