    Default Key Fob Batteries

    Hi Folks

I've had mine since Sep-2007 - bought it as a pre-reg from the dealers. So it's over 2 years and 3 months now. It's a Vectra 1.8 Exclusiv.

Could anyone help me out with a bit of advice on how frequently I should replace the Key-Remote-Fob batteries ? - I used to replace them in my old Vectra (2000 reg) every 2 years., so was wondering if that would be the case with the 2007-model as well.

Also could anyone let me know how to open the key-remote-fob, and also what battery type (model no. etc) that I need to get (best place to get them ? ) please.

The thought of getting stuck somewhere isolated with a 1-yr old in the back seat is haunting me , needless to say anything about the missus for sure she will burn me down alive if anything like that happens !

    thx

Hi..if you look at the back of your keyfob there is a black rectangle, which is part of the main body and is part of the design. above the actual key itself is a small recess which is adjacent to the rectangle.

Insert a small flat bladed screwdriver into the recess and twist. Your key should then 'break' into two pieces with the key blade seperate to the main body.

The main body then simply splits to reveal the battery. 3V CR2032,cost approx £2.00 and available anywhere like Maplins etc.

    HTH.

I only change mine when they go flat!

You can still unlock the doors manually and start the car without the key battery if necessary - try it if you need to convince yourself.

I get a message on the radio display informing me when they're low.

Yes, you can still open the doors with the key, but the alarm sounds until you start the engine.

For the sake of 50p to £3 (depending on where you buy a battery from) it's not worth the fuss of not bothering to change it when you know it's on it's way out.

Besides that though, a franchised Vx garage should change the fob battery every 2nd service.
