Sump Plug Nut

Chaps,

My oil change is WELL overdue (been putting it off due to old weather ) so gonna do it this Saturday whether it's snowing, raining or whatever. But from here I've seen there maybe at least two types of sump nut.

Can anyone tell me the different sockets sizes I may need so i'm not caught short??

off hand i can't remember but you do not need to change your sump nut with your oil change, sometimes its worth changing the copper washer but i only changed that once in all the oil chnages i did on my veccy B.. for my signum I changed the washer as i did know the history of the car prior to me buying it and giving it a full oil/filter change.., I keep spare washers just in case but doubt i will change it on the next oil change next month.

Yeah I understand that, just asking what socket size as I believe some maybe torx E##, as I don't own many torx/star sockets I'll have to buy one first, just not had a chance to get underneath yet to actually look myself.

for how much they cost worth getting one just in case .... if its your first oil change you doing yourself get one you never know if its been over tightened before .. if its the torx one then can have stripped splines... at least you will have one if you have to attack the old one

the torx ones are a pain in the butt, if you replace it just buy a normal sump plug that you can undo with a normal socket/spanner

Mines a t45 i think, pain in the arse unless you can get right under neath, as so easy to round off.........voice of experiance.........

I think E45 is correct, don't forget to get the rubber O ring to seal the sump plug with.

Mine (1.9cdti) is a nut type - 13mm, but a 1/2" socket is actually a better (i.e. tighter) fit on it, so I use that. They are only tightened to 25Nm - 30Nm or so.

You dont mention the year of your car but I have changed the oil on my 56 reg 1.9cdti. The plug is a 13mm torx socket which means it has six sides(hex) not 12 like a normal socket. Dont try it without the right socket as it will slip and burr the nut. Mines was very tight and took a bit of moving. Hope this helps.

You dont mention the year of your car but I have changed the oil on my 56 reg 1.9cdti. The plug is a 13mm torx socket which means it has six sides(hex) not 12 like a normal socket. Dont try it without the right socket as it will slip and burr the nut. Mines was very tight and took a bit of moving. Hope this helps.

Mines a 2002 2.2DTI so I'd guess a hex-nut rather than torx number, as I say if it is the torx socket then I now know it's an E45 (which I thought was moisturising cream...... )
