    Default Grrrr! Some drivers!

Just drove out to get some lunch. Driving down a two lane road this newish BMW comes towards me hogging most of the road. I slide to the left a little to avoid hitting him. He doesn't yield and *crack*, my wing mirror disintegrates! I stop dead and he just carries on!

Fuming, I pull a U turn and start to give chase. He sees me coming and pulls over. 3 asian chaps get out of the car - 2 of them laughing. I'm still not amused so I start to check for damage other than the mirror glass and luckily it appears to be just that. Then I go to his car and his casing has gone along with the mirror. He's come off worse.

I speak to the driver who doesn't speak a word of English and I can't even understand his name which I've asked him to write down for me. Then one of the other guys says it's his car. I ask him if the driver was insured and he says 'yeah, yeah of course'. I'm like OK so we don't need to involve the police then? He says no we'll sort it. I explain that I'm 100% certain that I didn't cause this and the reasons as to why and he doesn't have a problem with this. So I take his name and number and ring it whilst his mate goes up the road to retrieve his broken mirror casing. We agree that I'll call him to advise him of the cost of the replacement. We then leave - the other guys both laughing still!!

I mean wtf! I'll bet the driver wasn't insured! He couldn't even drive properly! Grrr! Off to the dealers to fork out 29.96 for a replacement mirror glass and then I'll call this guy and expect him to pay for his mate's mistake. Otherwise I've got the details and I'll be off down the cop shop!

    Rant over!

Fair play for keeping your cool, although, have to agree with spennny, dont fancy your chances on getting any cash out of him, you shouldve said, its £50 for the damage or I can get the boys in blue out to collect the relevant information, bet they wouldve pulled the cash out there and then!

No, I doubt he'll pay up too...it's so frustrating that there are idiots like this on our roads....just ruins it for those of us who are law abiding and do take care.

IMO and going by previous experiences, if i were to be involved in the same scenario......

............ i'd be involving the police, and i'd also take photographs of who the driver was, as well as the damage to both vehicles.

I'd be surprised if you hear from them also.

I had the same happen to me a couple of years ago & managed to catch up to the driver & his 2 mates in a private car park - the driver eventually agreed it was his fault & that he'd pay - guess what?, the next day he wouldn't even answer his phone to me or return txts & as I'd left it over 24hrs the police weren't interested

It's doubtful they would have responded if there are no injuries, though they may have responded if told you suspected he had no insurance etc. In any event at least the call would have been logged and info taken.

So he gave you his real name and a genuine phone no?

A 999 call on the spot with reasons to believe the driver wasn't insured might have been the way forward.

But what's done is done. We all learn from situations that haven't arisen before.
