Default Sub and amp now fitted

Finally got round to fitting my soundstream amp and bazooka bass tube.

Wanted to keep the standard CDC 30 headunit so added a line to RCA convertor. Stripped the interior and ran the power lead through the grommet in the bulkhead, down the nearside through the wiring conduit and into the boot.

Did the same on the offside with the RCA leads and remote lead (the remote lead had to be wired from the fag lighter as theres no electrical pulse from any wiring connected to the back of the stereo (is this whats known as CANBUS?)

Placed the amp in the boot and secured all the wiring, vecro'd the bass tube to the side of the boot trim and fired it up, all good.

Except that if its turned up, it sounds cool but when you turn it down it seems to have a low volume bass enhancement that causes the sub to distort at lower volume levels.

Also when you have the speed dependant volume control (SDVC) turned on, it starts to sound tinner the faster you are going so i turned that off.

Can i turn this bass enhancement thing off?

Just a thought but have you got the 'loudness' setting on or off? This might be causing the low volume distortion???

Hi Mate, What i have found is when you are running sub's and amps off a standard head unit, the information from the unit tends to be ****. You mention that you have a RCA adapter................ stop that's ya problem. When your system is on low volume's the information it send's to the amp is good, when you crank it up your head unit goes week at the knee's. You need a IN-line driver that will boost the signal from your head-unit to your amps thus giving you proper sound and CRONTROLLED base.

Like Spike has mentioned the standard head unit should be set at 0 or setting's and loudness turned off. Your amp's should dictate what your sub sound's like not your head-unit.

    Cheers

    Cheers for the thoughts guys.

The convertor is an Autoleads unit fitted by Impulse, the people my company use for ICE work. It has a pair of gain controls on it which i didn't fiddle with because my mate whos the fitter told me they are set to an ideal level.

It does sound good(ish) at both upper and lower levels but you either have to have it set quite low or high on the volume. The bit in the middle is so so...

Is there a loudness setting on this unit? tried scrolling through the controls but can't see anything. Maybe i should RTFM

Still i'm pleased to have my bass back!
