    Question Steering rack related question

My Dad owns a 2002 '02 Elite 1.8 and the steering rack has a slight weep from it, nowt major really but its on an advisory on the MOT, plus as he is selling it (and looking for a newer Vectra CDTi 150 Elite i may add) he is getting it replaced, as he knows that a weeping steering rack, bad or not, isn't a good selling point...although quite shocking on a Vectra with only 67k on it!

He has asked his garage if they'll fit it for him and they will, and he has asked me to buy the rack for him, and i just want to know which rack i'll need if anyone can help on here.

There is two sorts, one with the pump mounted on the rack and one without, and i don't know which one i'll need....I can't go and look for two reasons...I can't get in the car as fatha is out and has the keys with him lol, and even if i did go and look, i'm not sure i'd know what to look for, so asking you guys if you can help, as im sat here wanting to order it now lol

The car does not have ESP so thats one thing out of the equasion, so im hoping you can point me in the right direction, thanks guys

(I can give the chassis number if that helps anyone?)

Was on ebay for £119.99, plus £16.99 handling....it was on 'Buy It Now or Best Offer', so i slung a not too cheeky offer in of £110, and he accepted Total of £126.99.

2 hours labour i think is quoted for fitting, & our garage charges £35 per hour labour, making £70, so should come in just under £200 or there abouts.

2 yr unlimited mileage warranty on the rack too, although its sadly non transferrable, and as i mentioned he is wanting to sell the car, good for any potential buyer to see though.

The rack was fitted yesterday, a little more expensive then we estimated, came to £170...still cheaper than it would have been had they got the rack and fitted it, and a hell of alot cheaper had it been done at a stealers...

Pops reports that the steering feels more direct and 'tighter'...hmm, could be psychological, or maybe the old rack wasn't in the best of health?.....i said a the fresh PAS fluid will help though, more than likely never been changed since it rolled out the factory almost 8 years ago.

So, now its on the market...if anyone wants any info PM me

Well ive just had the car out this afternoon, first time i've driven it since the rack was fitted, and my Dad is actually right, the steering is alot firmer, its not stiff there's no problems with it, it's just more solid feeling and feels nicely weighted now...beforehand it fealt way to light...very impressed with it now.....just wish it was a deisel hatch and i'd have bought it off him myself
