    Angry Tax Credits Rant GGGGGRRRRRRRRR

Wife just rang me at work in tears.

She's gone to the cash machine to get money and buy nappies and milk for my youngest. The cash machine tells her she has insufficient funds. Turns out that our tax credit renewal has gone through and they have adjusted our payments from £57 pw to £7 pw!

So i tell her to calm down and ring the tax credits helpline. They tell her its because she has gone back to work and is earning more now. Our total income has gone up by 6k as she is back at work. She wants to work so she can be social and not a benefit scrounger. She hates spending week in week out at home with nobody but the kids to talk to.

I am pretty furious at the lack of information regarding the change in payment, they change it without telling you and then write to you later and let you know how much you have lost!

I rang them after she had spoken to me and told them that i thought the government wanted people to get back to work, not live on benefits!

I found out something else, on my P60 my company did not deduct the years pension payments and so this has caused the combined earnings figure to be higher (albeit only by £500). They have now made the adjustment and we will recieve another letter with an amended payment information but i don't hold out hope that it will be the £57 pw that it was!

I am frankly disgusted at the government for forcing people to be on benefits, after all, my wife would be financially better off that way!

sorry about the rant had to get it off my chest!

    That's **** poor.

They shouldn't make any changes until they have informed you.

Typical of the Government these days....

we are in a similar position, my mrs has gone back to work part time, so looking for childcare as we both work!!.the government bumf says you can earn a joint income of £57000/yr to be eligible for childcare benefit. the mother in law took a child care course and became registered at a acost and after applying for the benefit was told that cos we both work full time we cannot claim as we earn more than £15000/yr
to say i was unhappy was an understatement, im considering giving up work, dossing about drinking beer all day, going to the bookies to spend my dole and turning my house into a babymaking factory to get more benefits, steve your absolutely right, this government isnt interested in helping people back to work, just the ******s who abuse the system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear it, but in my oppinion the tax credit sytem is one of the biggest "**** ups" this bunch in power have come up with.I can talk with experiance, they gave me money then asked for it back, said I was paid too much yet they set the figures when I gave then all the information they asked for. I am glad my kids are at university now and I am not elegible to claim any more......

Steve, you are not on your own ..our tax credits have been wrong since it started...
they gave us £400 a month...

we said "this isnt right, its too much",

they said, "noooooooo its all yours, its been worked out correctly...enjoy"

    we think...yipee !!!.

12 months later..."erm We are sorry but you and not us made a mistake, and you now owe us £.........",

we say "hang on we questioned this 12 months ago and were told its all right"

they say, "dont care about that, we were right as always and you were wrong, so pay us the money or we will send the heavies round",..."oh and by the way would you like to claim for the next tax year....sir"

    after 3 years...still getting the same ****e......

I was worried about overpayment when my wife told me how much it had dropped by, i thought they were clawing back an overpayment but oh no, my wife decided to go to work, not only to earn money but to also be social.

She'd be better off sitting on her **** all day. Luckily, shes pretty independant and together we can cope with a slight drop but i'm still gutted about it.

I called the tax credit helpline tonight to ask if i should deduct the figure shown on her P60 in the maternity pay box, and they said they take off £100 per week for each week she was on maternity leave which is 28 weeks so that coupled with the deduction of my pension payments should be over 3k deducted from the total income figure, hopefully we can fix it so she gets equal or very slightly less than what she was receiving.

Sorry to hear your stories of horrendous overpayments and them not paying at all! that really sucks

It's costing us all the time to have this government in power The thing is, how much will it eventually cost us to get rid of them. Mind you, they're all as bad as each other, any of the things they introduce never effects them, just the little people who were stupid enough to vote them in in the first place. I think we should give the monster raving looney party a go, they can't do any worse.

As you say Gary they are all as bad as each other, promise the earth until they get in power and then the hard luck stories of "we are sorting the last governments mess" comes out and we are back to square one.
