Default HELP....the 2.2 direct saga goes on!

Right, where do i start! I actually cannot put into words how much i hate this engine!
i have had the car 5 months! first i replaced the battery, then the ecu, then it was the inlet manifold! then it was the fuel regulator and fuel pump!
After spending copius amounts of money on it and finally getting working again, i took it for an mot today and it failed! miserably!
firstly, offside rear shock has a fluid leak. this one i can cope with, annoying but expected, as its another common fault for the signums!
Secondly, parking brake lever has no reserve travel. im not sure what this means, but when the car went into vauxhall they fixed the handbrake as apparently theres a manufactures fault with them. so they did it for free as they had called them all back.
Thirdly, Its failed on exhust emissions! Co reading was 0.571% ! Its supposed to be 0.200%! They said it could be the mani cat! thats another £600! But it could also be the EGR Valve or something!
What the hell is the manicat all about? what a ripp off!! why cant they just make it a single cat unit?? theiving gits!
does anyone have any idea how i can get it through this mot cheaply so i can get rid of the poxy thing and buy the turbo veccy im longing for??

    Cheers ed

P.s sorry bout the rant! Just a litte upset

Manicat, the manifold and cat are one part on the 2.2, you could try fitting one from a breakers, its not a common fault for them to fail. The EGR can be cleaned by yourself, just be prepared when you take it off as its water cooled.

Its bolted to the side of the block (next to the battery box) This is the none direct but its in the same place.
