    Default Over heating

Ok so basically I don't think my cooling fan is working I checked the fuses and they are fine. When I'm driving it gets hot an the coolant starts to steam out in a massive burst and then the coolant tank is empty ad the no coolant light comes on any ideas???

When you drive does the temperature rise up then fall dramtically then rise up till its overheats if not then the thermostat is the likely culprit by not opening and not allowing the water to circulate properly, it works like this to warm up the engine more quickly or it could be the water pump when its hot if you try and open the expansion tank cap is it pressurised? if so the pump is probably ok.

Yea it's pressurised. The temperature gauge seems to be ok it doesn't fluxuate in temp it just keeps rising so it's probably the thermostat..... Is this something I can change myself?? Couldn't find a how 2 on here :'(

Yes you can do it yourself easy job and if you take pictures you could post a How 2 they cost about £50 for the housing with the thermostat in them but some members have changed just the thermostat for about a tenner.

If there's no pressure it could be the water pump you are gonna need to have it tested mate at a garage before this overheating causes some serious damage like the head warping.

You really shouldn't be opening the coolant cap with a hot system, the water simply boils and ejects itself so it's no surprise it is empty afterwards

However, once empty the coolant warning light may come on, but only if your car has the computer warning system (otherwise known as driver information centre)

If there is steam coming out of the sealed system when the engine is wamr or hot then the breakage needs to be sourced AND quickly
When the engine cools down (without removing the cap) can you hear any gurgling noises?
