Possible ALTERNATOR on the CDTI 150 -HELP!

My dad's Vec CDTI 150 has thrown the battery light up last night, this morning two of the other lights have come on too, EML and spanner.

We had a recon bloke look at it and he said Alternator. Is he right?

He has also quoted £160.00 to supply and fit a re-con unit!

Is that reasonable?

Hi, withthe car running connect a multi-meter across the battery, you should get a reading of about 14V anything less than 13.8V and the alternator is suspect.
Price quoted is very good, Eurocarparts charge between £220 and £333 exchange then about 1hr to fit.

Stupendously cheap price, watch it though as full cambus Vec's can be fussy with non-VX units.

yes it soulds like the alterantor,i have just replaced mine on the zafira and
had the same lights come on and also the power steering didnt work and
the headlights were flicking on n off aswell as the dash lights etc.

i actually drove home 23 mile on the battery when it then decided to die
on me just as i pulled up on the driveway.

was very lucky to get that far.

so it does sound like the alternator,i bought one for £150 brand new but
there £171 trade club from the dealer if you can get trade club.

I havent got access to a meter mate, any other way of checking???

Apparently it comes with 6 months guarantee....but someone mentioned a year to me, have to get dad to re-ask and double check.

Is that £150.00 to any consumer or is that via a back door? If its New, then I could get that and pay my mate £30 to fit?

A cheapo meter is £3.99 from Maplin. Will be more than sufficient.

What year is your dad's motor as there was a recall for the alternotor on earlier models - well deffo the 54 plate ones as mines was recalled in May 2008.
