    confused Clutch won't disengage

Well I got in this morning and pressed the clutch pedal down, turned the starter and the car lept forward. Depressing the clutch it feels very light to start then gets firmer towards the end of its travel. Any ideas people before I start grovelling under it or do I just call the garage ?

    Thanks

Thanks for your reply, however it's a hydraulic clutch.

Vectra has never used a cable, always been hydraulic

If the clutch pedal will not operate the clutch, then it really needs to be attended to by a mechanic
Ironically, normally it's the other way round, the clutch won't engage

The Vec can still be driven with no clutch. Only problem is stop starting, but just pull it into neutral then when ready to move again just push gearstick towards first and hold it there till it engages. Then just change gear when you hit 2500rpm by releasing accelerator then pull/push the stick firmly into next gear slot. Not advisable for long periods though.

    Thanks everyone,
Problem diagnosed courtesy of the wife, I got her to push the pedal down while I looked around, Brake fluid level dropped about 1mm for every pedal push - so it's off to my local garage for a new actuating cylinder and while he's got the gearbox off a new clutch ? (done 60k on the original)
