Smile HELP, cleaning the EGR valve pics included.

I have been having problems with the car revs bouncing up and down and the car trying to stall at junctions etc anyway fitted a new MAF sensor yesterday and thought it worked. untill today all the problems started again. Called the AA out who plugged his computer in etc but found no fault codes, told me its more than likely the EGR valve sticking, which i have read lots of posts about. While we were talking to the aa man he said they have a tendancy to stick so he got his hammer out and gave it a couple of bangs with hammer. and advised me to either have the EGR valve cleaned or replaced. Thought i would give it a clean myself when i got home so undone everything to remove the EGR and the AA man has cracked the plastic cover off the EGR which must of happend when he hit it with his hammer. Do you think i should contact the AA regarding this?

Also i am in the process of cleaning the EGR and have got it soaking in some cleaner. is their any bits that need drilling out like on the cdti engines as mine is a 2.0DTI or does it just need a good cleaning up.

Hi m8 the only priority i found was for the piston to be able to lift freely and to be able to reseat properly
Here is mine when i last removed it for a clean the second pic shows the piston in the egr cylinder that needs to be able to move freely.

hi, i have just replaced mine, i can tell you that your egr for that model retails from dealers @ around £350, there are some on ebay that recon to do the job but at these prices i would definately complain to the aa. you can't drill this type of egr just clean the piston and it's chamber.

    Hi Eagle
if you turn the 'U' shaped actuator by by hand it will dissengage from the the piston you can then clean it better.(the piston will move further up in the body )i then use a small brass wire brush on a dremmel, refitting is just a matter of linning up the slot in the piston and turning the actuator,(make sure the steel roller is free in the actuator arm)
