    Default Instant fuel consumption

Just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers in investigating why my instant consumption displays complete random numbers even when holding a constant speed using cruise control. All other features of the trip computer appear ok ( avg speed, avg consumption, range etc). I'm hoping its something simple like a sensor to clean or adjust.
Any help would be much appreciated

I believe this is normal, mine does it too, even with cruise control, it's constantly changing the amount of fuel it's using to maintain the same speed wether it's up/down a hill etc.

It can be random like that depending on the road conditions, if you want a more stable reading you need to switch to you average consumption view...

any car with a trip computer will do that, its totally normal. youll find that the higher numbers will appear when youre going downhill & the cruise control has closed the throttle, therefore using little or no fuel as you drive downhill. as you go up a hill the numbers will reduce as the cruise control opens the throttle, therefore using more fuel, increasing the fuel consumption.

As intimated by the others above Cruise control is not a constand rev it's a constant speed. When going up hill the engine has to worker harder to keep the speed at the desired level.

It shouldn't be that volatile, although it's not very accurate below 40mph
Equally, it depends on the type of road and gear being used

Once I am at the set speed it normally returns between 15 and 80mpg, only going above this on steep declines but usually the cruise control switches off due to overspeed

yours switches off due to overspeed? must be something wrong with your cruise id say. mine keeps a steady speed up & downhill & i have a manual 1.8.

ive only ever experienced any cruise control switching off after it drops approx 10mph below the set speed & i drive an automatic 5.4l ford econoline van, which has cruise control, for work, never had the cruise switch off on that when going downhill & 'overspeeding'.

I think he means when it cuts the throttle off for a hill
