    Default caravan springs

    hi all
i have 2.0ltr dti and i am looking to change my rear springs, they have not snapped but have done 90.000miles.
Have found some O.E springs,i did not know vauxhall made upgraded springs to tow a van does anybody know if this is the case?.
If so should i fit these or just replace with the normal springs as O.E ones are on e- bay for 25.00 pounds.caravan ones are 30pounds.
    many thanks tommy.

Hi there, I haven't heard of uprated springs for towing. I am now on my fourth vectra c and never had any issues with weak or broken springs. I have had the car laden with a family of 4, roof box and fleetwood sumatra on the back and towed effortlessly from the north east of scotland to dover. All my vectras have been the SRi and I think they come as standard with uprated springs.

You could always fit some coil rubbers, which will stiffen the rear springs up, about £12 a pair from Towquip and other caravan places.

I've used a pair in the past, when we used to pull our Lunar Quasar 524 caravan a few years ago.

Did'nt seem to affect the suspension either too much when you were'nt towing. Fairly easy to fit, as long as you soften them up first in warm water, and a good squirt of washing up liquid to aid sliding them into position.

Quite a few caravanners use them, and they do the job well, and their cheap.

A pic of my old outfit, fitted with spring rubbers. The boot BTW is weighted right down as was the rear of the car, very little in the van just to get the weights safer, and you will notice very little sag at the rear.

Be safe always use a rubber! lol

Tommy, if the ebay seller is from germany then 'Caravan' will probably mean 'Estate' body style.

There is still a special O.E. towing spring for Hatch / Saloon as per my post above.
