There should be pre-indented markings in the boot floor where you drill the holes. Use a hairdryer or heat gun to soften the soundproofing/rubber coating inside the boot floor and then scrape it away. Check carefully which plate goes on which side and then use one of those stepped cone drill bits to ease out the holes to the right size - I thought it was 22mm from memory but you'll soon see.

Get some good underseal - the stuff that dries firm - and paint the towbar prior to fitting as you won't be able to reach it all once fitted. I fitted a hatchback bar without removing the bumper. The electrics were just plug-and-play for me, some have said they needed to use the tech-2 to enable them.

hi mate my dad has recently fitted a towbar, you need to check that you have plug in your rear fuse box for the plug as some don't and also my dads needed tech 2 so he got it wired by a towbar place as if you just join the wires to the rear lights it wot work they have to fit a relay but works out cheaper than tech 2

    I used one of these:

    eg: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/15976/...p-Drill-4-22mm

Got mine from the market - unless you plan to go into business it doesn't need to last longer than the holes you need now.

I got the Vx wiring kit and it just worked. The holes you drill in the floor allow the shank of the bolts to pass through. The threaded bits pass through smaller holes which are already drilled in the bottom surface of the chassis rails. The towbar bolts up tight to the bottom of the chassis rail to the shoulder of the bolts.

DO NOT hard wire into the electrics.

I know many people this and it sometimes works. But it is for sure NOT good practice.

Winnie, if you have gone to the effort of buying the proper electrics, then don't short cut it. You will have the place to plug in the control module and also the loom plug.

You will need to tech 2 the car to tell it the tow electrics are present. I have known of people do it with op Com but not done it myself.

I have done about 8 Vectra C towbars now and never come across one without.

You dont have to Tech 2 for the tow bar electrics to work, as long as you have the module and fuse in place you will have power to electrics, Tech 2 enabling the towbar electrics only allows canbus to detect for bulb failures and the towed vehicle directional indicator warning on the instrument panel

You cannot simply connect Vectra Towbar electrics into the rear lights, as tail / brake works the same bulb filament on different voltages.

You CAN hard wire in, but it's a bit more complicated. I did it his way, using relays for tail and stop lights. Indicators ran straight off the rar light fittings.
