    Default coolant warning

hi guys can anybody tell me if im worrying about nothing? twice now iv had the coolant warning pop up (picture of radiator) both times after just starting the car, one i took a left corner fast and the other i reversed and braked. after the first ocassion i checked (when cold) the header tank level and it was low (1 cm below cold mark) and i topped it up, the second time (2 weeks later) i checked the level and it was at the cold mark while the engine was warmed upto running temperature, any ideas? ive owned the car about a year and it hasnt done it before when taking corners fast and braking, there are no visible signs of a leak or crystalisation, no bubbling in header tank and no mayo in the oil.
as there is no visible sensor in the header tank i assume it is on the radiator? if so on both occassion ive had an x amout of coolant in the header tank when hot and cold so therefore a sensor on the radiator should not be tripped??? if i should check the wiring to the coolant level sensor where is it and how do i get to it ( 52 vectra c 2.0dti) although if the level is at the cold mark when warm, surely if lost some coolant??
    any ideas anyone????

    many thanks

    mike

I had this a few times last week, found the coolant was correctly at the "KALT" mark, so checked the gravity of the coolant and found it was too low
I bought one litre of VX Coolant
I drained the header of about 600ml, and refilled to the "KALT" mark
I then ran the engine for a short trip, then rechecked the gravity and was more acceptable

So much for the VX dealership checking the gravity at last service!

as per above, i have topped it up (vx orange) the coolant for the second time now, i estimate (when cold) that over two weeks the level drops 1 to 2 cm, what concerns me is that i didnt have to do this untill after over a year of ownership. it may be woth noting that i had a new thermostat and new coolant fitted by vx 2 months ago as the old one was slow, i have checked for leaks around it but there are none, will check the gravity asap, any other ideas ?

    thanks for advice

It's the concentration of the coolant to water
The dropper is available from most good motor accessory shops
Its called gravity as the indicators slowly fall when the concentration is very low

    Mine came up as -14'C
