Default Temporary three months 2p on a litre of petrol

The government is considering a temporary increase of 2p per litre for three months, paid direct to local authorities, in order for them to effect road repairs as a result of weather damage

To start off I supported this, however some local authorities would cry foul as they have more roads to repair than others
Equally, not all roads are maintained by local authorities (trunk road network)

Equally, the proposal is due to go before the Scottish Parliament first, as far as I am aware the first time it will have really used its tax varying powers
Normally it wouldn't be allowed to do so, but this is due to the local authorities here being funded directly by them
If the proposal fails, then it is likely the government won't take the proposal further

Don't we already PAY for this, some more than others? Why cant they take 2p-£2 from the people that already waste mine and your tax money, housing immigrants that come here illegally.

I know the work needs to be done and I know there is a recession but I dont know what road tax is for if not for fixing the roads?
Fuel is far too expensive already. Surly the can use some of the speed scamera van takings?
Is this just for Scotland or planned for all UK?

If a bigger chunk of our road fund license went towards repairing and rebuiling the roads instead of the 25% or so that does at the moment, this proposal wouldn't be necessary..

The roads near me have been in an apalling state for ages. The fact that they have been ill or not repaired in the past opened them up to more damage when we did have the bad weather. They will try and do this but will they ever admit that they made a **** up in the first place?

    hi
    why should we pay anymore,
dont we pay enough with road tax, petrol tax and council tax.
and how much does it cost to fill a pot hole.
if we pay the 2p extra how much will go on filling the pot holes and how much will line some councilers pockets

It's amazing isn't it that they are after OUR money again.

Council's collect the council tax, but on average £229 a year per property goes to fund the gold plated pension scheme and if anyone dares to say that they are going to change it from a final salary scheme they threaten to go on strike!!

Sorry if this offends anyone on this forum who works for a local council but it is not right IMO!

    Rant over!

The utility companies should take a hit here, not only have they ripped the whole country off with high fuel prices, but they are forever digging holes and making shoddy repairs to the road which makes this situation worse.

I think this is where the money should come from, asking motorists to pay even more fuel tax would be crazy for any government that wanted to stay in power.
