Default What have i done? Dropped EGR gasket in engine bay...

    Hi all,

Being my usual self (clumsy) I've only gone and dropped my EGR gasket into the engine bay. WTF...

I've made another from a 7Up can - Does anyone know how long it will last for? I've taken the car for a spin; it works, but for how long?

What one did you drop mate the one on the pipe(oval one) or the square one between the egr and inlet manifold?

It should last long enough to get you to the stealers and back.If you undo the back screws on the undertray or the sump hatch you may get your hand in and find it.

Quite easy to do unfortunately, they do tend to fall off when you lift off the EGR sometimes, it happened to me, but was able to see it and recover it.
It may be okay with the homemade one, but me personally if only for peace of mind I would probably get a replacement from the dealers, about £2 each.

I assume yourve gotten underneath and tried to move your hand across the plastic bottom cover, I've manage to recover the odd bolt I've dropped by turning the wheels to their extreme and there's a bit of room to just get your hand up from the bottom.

When my gasket dropped it was located in between some pipes and had not fallen right down. Another good look perhaps... obviously better if you can find it, in case it rattles around... Best of luck!

If it had been a bolt or anything made of steel I would have suggested using one of those cheap telescopic magnet retrieval tools.. certainly saved my bacon a few times, even if you cant see the lost bolt just passing the magnet in the general area will usually cause it to leap onto the magnet.

Lump did the same to his. I think he was quoted about £1 or so each of the gaskets. But one part.( to which I forget) they wanted ...............................£ 120
I seems an easy thing to do. Drop the gaskets down the engine.
