More than 360 Luton Vauxhall job losses confirmed

More than 360 jobs are to go at car giant Vauxhall's Bedfordshire van plant along with another 150 from its administrative department.

Chief executive Nick Reilly said a total of 369 jobs would go from the Luton plant, 15 more than were announced last November.

He also said 154 administrative and sales posts would go with about half going from the town's Griffin House.

Van production will continue at Luton until at least 2013.

Bosses said that in the meantime new business opportunities were being looked into.

Vauxhall currently employs 1,458 people at its Luton plant, which makes the Vivaro commercial van.

No jobs will be lost at the Ellesmere Port factory on Merseyside, which employs 2,166 people and makes the Vauxhall Astra.

Well I think this was inevitable, with the numbers being in line what VX forcast a while ago.

Overall I believe the decision for VX to re-take control is probably a lot better for the UK VX workers than would have been the case if they had not. I have no doubt that the fact germany were not pleased by GM's decision would mean we would be...lol

They still have money problems and will do so for quite some time, if pruning a few jobs secures the future of VX in Britain then its for the best.
