    Default The new 2.8 Turbo Engine - Info please...

    As you probably know I am looking at changing my Vectra.... Now in mind I have an Audi RS4 and a BMW M3 2002 models.

    BUT after seeing you can get a rather spunky new and rather sexy looking Signum with a 2.8T engine in.... I'm thinking again. I am buying new again and have a warranty backup.....

    BUT they only come with a 230bhp engine. Now frankly my ar$e could produce that with a turbo on it. So what can I do to this engine? Milltek full exhaust obviously, but I wouldn't be happy until that was at around 300bhp and 350lb-s torque min to be honest.

    Do we know any tuners out there offering all this?

    I love my Vec, but the reason I am changing I have just been promoted to IT Director, and as such have a phat pay check now. And I can now go back to petrol (which I prefer).

    Now I am only going to do this if I get the right money for my Vec Diesel. If I don't, I keep it. Simple as, but tuning then comes out and we start to see some proper figures from this engine.... But if I can, I want a petrol instead. Especially a 2.8 Turbo from either Audi or Vx

    Any thoughts welcome please. Audi RS4's I am looking at have around 60-70k on and simular with the BMWs. Where the Signums have 5k on max. So obviously that comes into play.

    I'm currently thinking about this model

    And the mods for it would have to be a good old BSR remap....wait for it...to 285BHP

    I know this is for a Saab but this is the same engine. I have just noticed though that the start BHP is 245 rather than 230BHP from the Signum, This is before you play around with exhaust, different filter systems etc. After that I would consider Koni FSD shocks and springs. At the moment I'm just totting up the maths to put a case forward to the Mrs. I too am looking for high 280-300 BHP (awaiting a posting back to Germany, with promotion) so the wish list would stand as: different turbo, intercooler and remap with new exhaust and ITG filter. with these mods i believe it to be viable.

    Come on John, it's a 2.8 petrol turbo, 3 or 4 phone calls and 3 or 4 offers of 300 plus Bhp, Why the **** buy a long in the tooth second hand RS4 or M3 when you can have New or nearly New Signum or VXR.

    Have you spoken to Jayson at chipped uk? It may be worthwhile if you get the car soon at £200

    failing that I'm sure Thurlby will offer something for this engine, or there's hundreds of other tuners out there

    isnt this the same engine as the vxr, but with different software? I know that some guys who bought the 170bhp astra sporthatch had the software changed by vaux dealers for the 197bhp software that is fitted to the five door. cost 2-3hrs tech 2 time.

    It can't be stressed at all at 230bhp whatsoever.

    Is the VXR turbo the same as the standard one?

    I just wish they brought out the Signum as RWD you know...

    In a strange way I don't know if I can be bothered with the VXR.... I don't know why.... It is stunning!!!

    But now we are entering Monaro terriotary too......

    Why look into an RS4? 420bhp with a basic remap, estate and looks the t1ts mate M3 isn't really one.... But I do love the RS4 Soon have that to 450bhp with an exhaust and few bits

    But then..... imagine a 450bhp Signum....

    Any idea on the exact turbo in the 2.8T engine?

    RS4 yes I see your point(but not a 4 or 5 year old one), M3 overrated by far.

    Not sure John, possibly a Garret as they are very good these days and offer loads of applications in loads of Manufacturers cars

    I have to agree with Robbieben. You make a few calls & any number of punters will be able to help with a performance upgrade.

    Do yourself a favour mate, buy a fully kitted new Sigbum. The other stuff while without question are great cars are now old models & not the latest available.

    John, this should help.

    The Vectra VXR engine and Signum 2.8T engine are the same as previously mentioned. In Europe you can buy a 255PS Signum from the factory. Vauxhall just decided not to release it here so a software upgrade should be the order of the day.

    There is an issue with cooling on this engine for serious tuning. Although the engine is capable of getting over 300bhp, at the time 290bhp is as far as the 'proper' tuners have got. Once a cooling upgrade has been sorted then higher figures will be acheivable. Don't forget before anyone states the obvious, Vauxhall only have to esure the package works correctly at the factory based figure, ie 255PS, they are not, and don't have to be concerned at anything over this. That is where a tuner has to show there skills.

    In my honest opinion, on this car I would not trust any tuner that has not had a direct history with Vauxhall. Courteney at this time are the only tuner who I would trust to do the job right, and they have a history with working with Vauxhall, so the information flow between them is a good.

    The VXR performance centre will have many upgrades available in due course, so this will be another good route to follow.

    Regal offer a re-map, but I personally would drive a standard car than take it there.

    Regarding Milltek, there is not a Milltek system available for Signum and I don't beleive one is planned, Whether a Vectra VXR Estate system will fit I am not sure, but I can find out for you.

    A point do you mean the inlet temperature cooling side of things or the physical engine cooling of things?
