    Default Biofuel

I was in a BP garage tonight, I noticed the diesel pump had a new sticker on it that said " now includes 7% biofuel" .... I asked the garage attendant what it meant, in broken English he said " 10 o'clock, £20 please" ..... so what's this bio fuel they are putting in now.

It means what it says. That that their diesel is now 7% bio derived.

As a fuel certified to EN590 (ie normal road fuel spec) can include up to 5% bio derived, there is no need to have additional signage on pumps - the EN590 is sufficient.

As they are now using 7% bio derived, there is a requirement to inform the customer, who then has a choice. To use 7% bio or go somewhere else.

Their signage is just a fluffy way of saying that it now contains more bio derived fuel than before.

Does that mean we pay less for the fuel then, as the duty on biofuel is less than standard diesel? Somehow doubt it, another way for the fuel companies to take a few extra million a year of us rich motorists

I thought that fuel duty on bio is now the same as that for diesel

Is it, I stand corrected then, I just thought it was still reduced as bio-diesel is usually a good 30p/litre cheaper than standard diesel, or was when I looked a few months ago anyway

If thats the case and it meets standards, it must be ok to use 5% bio in ALL diesel engines!, other wise it wouldnt meet the said requirments. Therefore common rail systems can manage to cope with 5% mix.
