    confused Cam belt V6 3.2

Just read in another thread that a 3.2 V6 cam belt change was 80k but vx now say 40k , mine went into vx at about 40k for a service and they did not say anything about a cam belt change, my local garage looked on there computer and said 80k but suggested i have it done at about 60k. Cars just off 50k at the mo.
    Any ideas?

Cheers mate, dont understand why vx didn't say anything, they called me about a rear wiper broken and the brake fluid 'looked' a bit dirty and maybe the anti freeze might not last the winter but nothing about a ****** cam belt.

Kev - before I had my belt done, I rang at least six dealers and they all said 80k miles or 8 years. IIRC, I had mine done at around 65k by VX stealer Burnham Garage in Wycombe, c.£400 including a new water pump.

However, I have someone else in Wycombe (ex VX Master Tech for 9 years) who is very good and only £50 + VAT per hour labour. Let me know if this is of interest via PM.

If the service book is stamped with the garage details, contact the garage. VX stealers and most reputable garages won't mind giving you service info/history.

I booked my 1.8 vectra in for the 4 yearly service with vx dealer on saturday ,it was not mentioned about cam belt change ,so i asked when was it due ,
Expecting the answer That the book states 80,000 or ten years . i was told 4 years or 40,000 miles.....

Today i rang the same vx garage to confirm the times for cam belt change only to get another answer ,this time it was 6 years or 60,000 miles ..

But this was after the guy i was speaking to ,had come back from checking vauxhall specs relating to my my engine model type .......
So i would say it all comes down to the engine model you have in the Vectra ,that is unless someone else know different

Its all very odd as the same engine in the astra is 4 years or 40k.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

The definitive Vauxhall advice can be found on the Vauxhall website at:

    http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vaux/owner...do?method=view

    under FAQs. They say:

A: Your cambelt connects all the moving components, crankshaft, camshaft and valves. If your cambelt breaks or fails then major damage can occur to valves, pistons, cylinder head and cylinder walls - all of which can lead to very costly repairs and in some extreme cases, an entire engine replacement. Vauxhall recommends for multi-valve engines up to and including 2002 models, a cambelt change interval of 4 years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first. For all other engines and diesels, then please refer to your service book or consult your local MasterFit retailer.

That's why I traded in my 2001 Omega 3.2 at 39,000 miles in 2005, after the dealer told me I was in line for a hefty bill. I do know that the dealer who bought the car, promptly did the cambelt prior to selling on! (Otherwise, that was a great car!!)
