    Default Side light problem

I'm new to this forum and a total numpty at any car maintenance.

I have had a bulb warning light on my dashboard for a few weeks now but I'd never been able to work out which bulb wasn't working however in the last few days I've noticed that my front drivers side sidelight isn't working but instead, the indicator light is permenantly on. I've had a few people flash me recently and although I've never known exactly what for I can only assume it's because my sidelight appears to be glowing orange rather than white.

I had a look under the bonet at the weekend in an attept to work out what bulb I need to replace and couldn't work out how to get to the sidelight bulb. I've changed a headlight bulb in the past with some difficulty but this one seems totally buried and impossible to get to. Am I going to have to take it in to the garage just to get a bulb changed?

Any help or advice gratefully received.

I'd worked out it needs replacing, I just don't know how.

I have no idea what the airbox is, what it looks like or how to take it out.

    Any advice?

Its the big black box in the left hand corner of the engine bay, you need to remove the hose coming out of it, remover the lid and then it pops off of the rubber mounts

    lol...
    Glad you worked it out

The airbox is the big plastic box infront of the headlight, it houses the airfilter... remove that & you will be able to see better

Failing that a trip to the dealer to be charged a fortune lol...

Shame your not near me, a local motor factors near me does all the hard work by fitting builbs etc... & only charges for the builb

The Vectra uses the adjacent indicator bulb when the front sidelight bulbs blow. I've not changed the front sidelight bulbs in the yet, but it is covered in the manual if you have a copy. If not, you can download one from the vauxhall website in PDF format.

There are at least 3 separate covers on the back of the headlamp unit for the various bulbs. If you are feeling brave - and perhaps until some who knows for definite which cover the sidelight bulb lives beind posts - I'd start with the cover directly behind where the sidelight bulb is located.

I think you can get away without removing the headlight on a pre-facelift car (http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68943&highlight=replace+sidelight) although removing the air filter box and waher bottle neck does provide more room, but there's less room in a facelift so you will need to remove them - or move the leadlight unit forward as per the pictures in the How2 section (http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15060).

Guide how to identify your headlights here - http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89453.
