    Default signum 3.2 elite petrol

Hi am new to here, I am looking to buy a 3.2 V6 signum 03plate 63kmiles manual petrol. i went to view the car and take it for a test drive. It drives good and the interior body work is in excellent condition for the elite spec. Problem is under the engine oil cap there is a residue of yellow colour. Also there is a oil leak in engine but cant see where from. I need help as in

    1. Is the yellow colour in oil cap cause of water in oil, Or is it cause has been sitting at garage over winter? Is this fixable? Can it cause damage in future?

    2. There was a drop of oil under car where it was sitting then took it for a drive, parked up then a new drop of oil on groung where it was then relocated. Looked in engine bay and seems to be oil down to the bottom right og engine. Is this rocker cover gasket? is it major or is it anything that can be sorted fairly cheaply?

i really like the car and want to purchase it but these things are putting me off it and making it a risky buy.

Any help please as dont want to miss out on car. thanks.

Most likely short trips and not letting the oil fully get up to temperature to burn off any moisture in it.

If in any doubt, get a sniff test done on the coolant header tank.

The 3.2 V6 is a great engine! Add it to a Signum and its still what I wish I'd bought instead of the 2.0T.

You need to be careful with the oil leak. Whilst the mayonaise in the filler cap is often just the result of too many short journeys, the leak is a different matter.

The GM V6s (2.5, 2.6, 3.0, 3.2) can suffer from rocker cover gasket failure, either caused by warped plastic rocker covers, and/or the oil breather pipes getting blocked, which causes too much pressure in the crank case, which causes the oil leak.

Thanks jezzy. So if it is the rocker cover gaskets is this cheap to fix? Would the car still be good when this is fixed? Read the link and it does point to the rocker cover gaskets but I dont want to purchase if big job. Thanks again.

If you're good with spanners, then no more than £20-30 for 4 rocker cover gaskets from VX. Thing is, the plenum chamber has to come off to get to the covers. Otherwise, about 1 hours labour.

So depending on which garage you use, £70-150 inc parts.

thanks alot for the quick replies. So the oil leak after the test run is probably mostly due to the rocker cover gaskets needing replaced? The link top the mayonaise in oil cap has made that clearer and is aneasy solution thanks. The car has full service history but at 63k i dont think the belt has been done yet, what mileage is this usually done at? Is it expensive?
