Brakes sound like metal to metal
Folks,

when my car gets warm and it comes under heavy braking, it sounds like it metal to metal, like a drone.

the front pads are ok, so are the rear one's, whats left?

The rear shoes cant contribute to this can they? I havent checked them but I would assume that the shoes are only controlled by the Handrake and cable?

Help please.

Car is a 2.2 SRI DTI 130 / 51-reg - Vectra-B.

Have the discs got a lip on the edge of them?

Have you tried cleaning the handbrake friction surface by slightly applying the handbrake and driving forwards about 100m?

I assume you know that the handbrake operates separate braking surfaces to the normal service brake?

The service brake (ie foot brake) operates the disc pads - just the same as on the fronts.
The handbrake operates conventional shoes in the hub inside the assembly - just as a drum brake works.

So the setup is both disc and drum, for foot and hand brake respectively.

Occasionally you have to clean the handbrake shoes and drum inner of carps, rust etc by doing the above mentioned procedure. It is in the handbook.

Ste, what you say is actually incorrect, the back does not have any shoes inside the disc. Look at this how2 about removing and changing the rear discs, there is nothing inside the disc.

As for my metal to metal, I have had the rears stripped down and replaced and the lips of the discs grounded off and re-bled, etc etc, and still the same.

Do you guys think new discs and pads on the rears would help me with my problem?
