Default Signum 3.2 Review so far

Well guys I have had the Signum for just over 1 month and 2000 miles so thought I would give a mini review so far. Before buying the car I used this site to do research so want to add to the wealth of information on the site.

I have a 2003 Signum 3.2V6 Elite which I purchased for £2650. I then spent £350 on a full service which included Cambelt, new windscreen washer motor and a new thermostat. The car stands me at £3000 which is amazing value fro money considering it will not need servicing for a while.

    Looks

The Signum looks great and in Elite trim with 17in wheels and chrome bits. I feel it is not a naturally stylish car but it is by no means ugly. I suppose what I am trying to get at is that when you see the car in the morning your heart does not sink at thought of being seen in it but I wouldn't go posing either.

    Interior

All the toys you could hope for are there, to be expected in an executive car. The only thing missing from mine is Sat Nav, I do not need it but I know some people think it is essential.

The seats are comfortable and supportive and give plenty of scope to get comfortable. Leg Room both front and rear is excellent. With the rear seats folded a flat and suprizingly large load area is revealed. While not as big as the estate it will satisfy most peoples needs.

Overall the cabin offers everything you need and doesn't look to bad either. The only down side is the quality of the materials used is no where near as good as BMW/Audi and even VW. The plastics do not have the feeling of solidity that I would expect and the leather looks and feels more like leatherette.

    Driving

The engine is amazing. It is quiet and refined when pootling around town or cruizing on the motorway but when the mood takes it you and you open the taps the sound of a V6 is something special.

The effortless way the car makes progress is down to the large amount of torque provided by such a large engine, a real joy. Going back to a smaller engined car will be difficult as silkly smooth power can only come from a large engine.

The handling is surefooted aided by the various safety systems. I always feel safe and secure but never invoved in the same way I do when driving my previous 3 series.

Overall fuel consumption is 25 mpg with half motorway and half round town. Not bad I guess.

    Overall

I think Vauxhall missed a trick with this car. It was never going to compete with German Brigade but as a comfortable, practical, fast, economical and relatively stylish family car it cannot be beaten. I needed a car to fit myself, girlfriend and two children under three along with all their car seats, pushchairs and changing bags. I also needed a car for work that was comfortable and had a large load area.

This left me with two choices, A people carrier or an estate. I would rather cut off my right arm than drive a people carrier (Used to have a chrysler grand Voyager) and my girlfriend won't drive an estate. The Signum fulfilled all of our requirements.

Would I recomend one? Yes Yes and Yes

Excellent little review, glad you like the car. I don't think you'll find a 3.2 owner that doesn't agree with your comments about the engine.

That's a bargain, mind if I ask where you got it done as I'm due a cam belt change?

Got all the parts from a place in Wakefield, Autovaux I think. Mentioned I got their name from this forum and they gave me a discount. I then took the parts to a garage local to my work and asked them to fit, they were not happy as he said that they do not make their mark up on parts. Seemed a little happier when I said I was paying cash!! No receipt required, but they have put a sticker with the date and mileage so if I do sell the buyer will Know professionals fitted it.

I would try any local garage as everyone seems to like cash at the moment!
