Default Repair Costs !!!!? any ideas

I have just had my 54 Vectra 2.0 tdi checked over by kwikfit (they were only ones open today) as i was a getting a grinding noise from the rear nearside. thinking it would just be a worn rear brake pad, they have had a look and are quoting £616 for the discs, pads and a new coil spring on the rear passenger side. i told them i would think about it and made a swift get away.

i wasn't expecting a repair of anywhere near this, i will have to replace the rear discs as the grinding has ruined the disc, the fronts have a bit of wear, they are the originals by the look of things, so i may change them at the same time.

I am in the Dundee area, does anyone have any ideas on a cheap garage and where i can source these parts on the cheap also.

    Thanks

    Barry

    Default Thanks

I will give the VX garage a ring in the morning, i just about fell through the floor when they said that this would be the cost, i had a quick look in halfords on the way home and the springs were coming in at £63 and the discs for a pair where £75, front pads £27 and the rear £23.

These were all halford parts so im not too sure on the vx genuine parts. has anyone had these repairs done by vx? how much should i look at paying?

    Thanks

    Barry

Aren't you tempted to do the brakes yourself? It's fairly straight forward.

I am tempted but i have a new baby and if something happened and i changed the brakes myself, its not worth thinking about,

I'd jsut ring up a dealership and get a quote for everything in one go mate - they'll supply and fit proper parts and not the rubbish you'll get form ebay - you simply don't know what you're getting there...

you can get discs and pads from the dealers with discount for about £60 mark, coil spring will be about the same money each, and are both very easy to do at home, or if you know someone that can help you out, you will save about £500 from that kwik fit price,

HOW THE HELL CAN GARAGES QUOTE THAT PRICE, AS ITS WELL OVER THE TOP

    Hi,
Not sure if they've changed their suppliers yet, but I got a set of front pads from Halfords for my old 306 DTurbo about 4 years ago, I didnt even get 10k out of them

The disk & pad kit is cheap enough £60 inc vat from dealers... as for springs £50 each from a decent motor factor...
Labour about an hour & half tops
