Default Decat - gain or lose power?

Thinking about decating my 1.8vvt engines exhaust (new manifold)

Been told that on engines with variable valve timing it can decrease power, how could this be so? Any advice?

It might be that you'll lose torque, due to the reduction in back pressure.

    That depends on its emmissions.

My 3.2v6 still has both manifold cats (one on each bank) but has had the main cat removed, straight through the mot.
